  • What to Expect at Book Club

Book Club is designed to feel fun, engaging, and confidence-building. Each session includes reading time, discussion, activities, and hands-on enrichment that helps children fall in love with stories.

Here’s what you can expect based on grade group:

Grades K–2 - Imagination Nation Themed Book Club

    (Tuesdays 4:00–5:00 PM)

The Imagination Nation Book Club is the perfect place for young readers who love magical stories and big adventures. Each week, we’ll read a whimsical picture book featuring fairies, dragons, pirates, unicorns, talking animals, and other enchanting characters that spark the imagination. After the story, we’ll dive into hands-on fun like creating story maps of enchanted lands, building magical props like fairy wands or pirate hats, and acting out scenes from the story with costumes and puppets. Designed to support early literacy and creative thinking, Imagination Nation Book Club encourages kids to love reading by turning each book into a hands-on experience filled with fun, friends, and a little bit of magic.

Our younger readers enjoy picture book read-alouds, interactive discussion about characters, themes, and vocabulary, and crafts, activities, and games that connect to the story.
K–2 students do not take a book home. Everything is done together in a supportive, cozy setting so they can listen, respond, and enjoy, without pressure to read independently.

Our goal is to build early comprehension skills, encourage listening and discussion, increase love and excitement for stories, and strengthen confidence in sharing ideas.
This session is perfect for emerging readers, reluctant readers, and early book lovers.

Grades 3–5 Harry Potter Themed Book Club

    (Tuesdays 5:10–6:10 PM)

Step into the magical world of reading! Little South Tampa Book Club offers a Harry Potter-themed book club designed to spark your child’s imagination and help them develop a lifelong love of books — all while feeling like they’re at Hogwarts. We will meet weekly to explore the Harry Potter series through interactive read-alouds, creative reading comprehension activities, and magical hands-on fun — from potion-making experiments to spell-inspired crafts and wizarding games. This enchanting experience helps children grow as confident readers, build friendships, and develop the courage to share their ideas in a warm, small-group setting. Whether they're a first-year or already know their Hogwarts House, they'll love diving into books and making magical memories with fellow readers!

Our older readers enjoy age-appropriate chapter books, small-group discussion for deeper thinking, vocabulary and comprehension support, and hands-on activities that connect to the story.
Each student receives their own copy of the current chapter book to read during Book Club, and then keep and add to their personal library.

This session focuses on reading fluency, confidence in discussion, analyzing character, plot, and theme, and developing opinions and expressing them respectfully. It’s ideal for children ready for chapter-book structure and conversation.
